Subclass 35491 Biodiesel of Central Product Classification v. 2.1 includes:
- liquid biofuels derived from biomass and used in diesel engines
These biofuels can be produced by:
- chemical modification: producing a linear alkyl ester through transesterification of vegetable oils or animal fats with methanol
- thermal processes, such as: gasification followed by Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, pyrolysis followed by hydrogenation, conversion of sugar to hydrocarbons using microorganisms (e.g. yeast)
This subclass does not include:
- mixtures of biodiesel with diesel oil, cf. 33360 (#cpc3336 - Gas oil)
